Functional Combative Systems

Functional Combative Systems

Krav Maga, Muay Thai Kickboxing, MMA, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) and Kali are all functional combative systems taught under Elite Training Center’s “umbrella.” We streamline our techniques so in the event that our students want to cross train in another system, the transition is much smoother. Does this make us different from other schools? Perhaps it does. Maybe it doesn’t. I’ve not trained in a place where so many systems were taught under one roof. I will say though, it makes up for a great place to train under people with a wealth of knowledge.

We are fortunate at Elite to have so many different systems. It has been really interesting seeing other Krav Maga schools popping up and other combative systems being utilized. I do want to however take this time to encourage my friends and family members to find a place to train. Many of my friends and family are spread out around the world. The friends I am around regularly are my co-workers, fellow martial artists. These are people with honor who understand what the importance of family and community are about. I’ve chosen to surround myself with good, honest, hard working people who have made a commitment to the martial arts lifestyle.

All of the people who generally read the Elite blog on Facebook are mostly students. This isn’t about our students. In fact, this is about everyone else. Our students have found a place to train. Many of Elite Training Center’s students consider it a home away from home. This is what I want everyone I care about to consider. Martial arts as a lifestyle, as previously discussed can be reiterated over and over again. But to commit to something greater than yourself and to be able to align yourself with a community of like minded individuals lends a sense of pride to everyone involved.

Friends and family; take the time to investigate all forms of martial systems. Research them and find something that motivates you to engage in learning a system for self defense. Everyone needs it. We all lift weights and run (well some of us run). It makes us feel good, for the most part knowing that we are taking care of ourselves. There is something much richer to be gained when committing to a martial system and growing within a community.

Explore what’s out there. Research and investigate. Make no mistake that there are people training with very different motives and vastly different lifestyles. If we can expand our communities and encourage one another to be stronger both mentally and physically then that glimmer of light that we are all hoping is still out there will burn much brighter in the bleakest of circumstances.
