The Knockout Game
This “game” that is being reported on in the news is alarming. I could sit here all day and write about the reasons why the “Knockout Game” is popular among the youth, why it resonates with the people it does, the lack of education held by those who find humor it, the parents who haven’t raised their children well. But I won’t.
Elite Training Center‘s programs always encourage every student to cross train. Many students who are here practice Krav Maga and Muay Thai Kickboxing. Some cross train into other systems at Elite such as Kali, MMA, or BJJ. It this case however, I will strongly encourage those students who don’t take part in Krav Maga to start.
Krav Maga has a reputation for being a very aggressive reality based self defense system. This is very true. And it should be. It is self defense. It is a fight, a fight for survival. Overall it must be understood that Krav Maga‘s first lesson is that of situation awareness. Use your gut. Trust your judgement. If a group of people are walking in your direction, avoid them. A few minutes out of your day won’t make you late an appointment. A stranger shouldn’t be offended if you cross to the other side of the street to avoid them. If they are, they’re still a stranger.
We live in a very PC society. There are great things that have come out of making us more socially conscious. We coddle, rely on technology, shy away from challenges and overall “soften because of it though.
Unlike MMA or Muay Thai, Krav Maga is different in mind set and application. Krav Maga doesn’t look at film on a potential or future opponent. The same came be said for BJJ since it does have its origin being more self defense oriented versus the sport that many have come to know today. This does not limit the Krav Maga practitioner from watching film. Watch the video of “The Knockout Game.” Let’s discuss it this week.
