Weight Loss and Much More…
“I find it fascinating that most people plan their vacation with better care than they do their lives. Perhaps that is because escape is easier than change.” Jim Rohn, American entrepreneur, author and motivational speaker.
It’s that time of year when everyone starts to set New Year Resolutions. This year, try a different approach. Instead of setting resolutions that start now and end up taking a back seat sometime around the holidays, set them in shorter time frames. Think more along the lines of weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly. Have your set of long term goals that are readdressed each year but also set short term goals that help you reach the long term ones. With this approach, you’ll be able to see more progress and rewards will be greater.
Think of goal setting as dreams with deadlines. Have a vision of what you want and who you want to become. Your vision is your eyes and ears to the future, allowing you to recognize the need for change, when to make it, how to implement it and how to manage it. You find vision by reaching for any available reason to change, grow and improve. Just as you perform preventative maintenance on a car, you must do the same for yourself and your life dreams. Treat every vision as a opportunity and every goal as a chance at a new learning experience.
Catagorize your goals into C, B and A goals.
C goals are comfortable goals that with a little effort and focus, they are easily attained. Rewards for achieving these goals should be minimal but consequences for not attaining them should be high.
B goals are believable goals. These are things you really want to see happen sooner rather than later. These goals are above the minimum goal but are still achievable. These goals should take some extra work and you should have to do something different to achieve it. Rewards should be high for achieving these goals but consequences should be minimal. Think on your first level promotion in Krav Maga, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and/or Kali Silat.
A goals are awesome goals and must be challenging. One example is Weight Loss. At the same time, it should be realistic and attainable, not impossible to reach. It should be challenging enough to make you stretch, but not so far that you break. Rewards for achieving this goal should be high. This could equate to your Masters Level entry or even Black Belt.
When setting goals, consider all of the important aspects of your life. Think of career, financial, fun time, health, relationship, personal and contribution goals. Make sure you prioritize your goals, set them, identify objectives to accomplish them, make a timeline and follow up on each goal. Create successful habits that help guide you to achieving your goals. Small things such as setting a reminder on your phone each morning with short term goals so that you see them each day, placing them on the refrigerator or having them posted somewhere you look each day can help remind you of them.
Build relationships with people in your life that can help you stay on track. Individuals in your life such as partners, significant others, friends and family can help achieve even the most difficult goals. Make sure the people you choose to help have a positive and strong influence on you. They much be open-minded, not judgemental and willing to hold you accountable.
Decide what you want, decide what you are willing to exchange for it. Establish your priorities and go to work.
