ways of learning martial arts Redondo Beach
WAYS OF LEARNING.
Any Martial Art practitioner would agree with me that we love to learn and practice Martial Arts
techniques. Like anything else, if we love something we want more of it.
There are 3 major ways of learning:
− visual (you see the technique)
− audio (you hear the explanation)
− tactile (you practice the technique)
Then there is memorization and organization. First step is to take notes.
If you are a student of Elite Training Center take notes because we are an Academy of Martial Arts.
We teach Kali, Krav Maga, Brazilian Jiu-JItsu (BJJ), Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Muay Thai Kickboxing and more. It is a lot of information that
you want to retain. Taking notes is another way of learning. Whenever you take a class you should be
writing down the lesson:
− which technique did I learn?
− when do I apply that technique?
− explain body mechanics
At first it may seam difficult to write a technique down, and sometimes there is no time to write the
whole thing, well, as long as you write something, even just half of the technique, next time around,
when the same technique is been shown again, you can write the other half of the technique. Maybe
you’ll have questions about the sequence or some details. Think about it. Starting from page one, every
word you spell on your notebook is precious. Granted, it’s going to take some times to learn this new
skill, however the end result will be great.
I started typing all my hand-written notes I collected the past 4 years. As I’m reading my notes, I’ve
noticed the progression of my ability to write Martial Arts notes.
I started my reading with comments like: “What in the world was I trying to say?!?” many times… as
I’m going through my notes I realized my writing is changing, I’m developing a system.
Now, when I read my notes, I say: “Oh, Yeah! I remember it!”.
Even typing is becoming easier; while I’m typing, my notes are getting more and more detailed, I’m
investigating more the subject and finding more connections. I simply love it!
Now I say: “Why didn’t I take notes when I started Martial Arts?”. Who knows how much I forgot
already over the years…
My suggestion to You Elite Training Center student is that you start practicing the “art” of writing
Martial Arts.
