Tiffany van Soest

The Champion’s Seminar
Yesterday, Tiffany van Soest gave a Muay Thai Kickboxing seminar at the school and it was amazing! For those of you that don’t know, Tiffany is the WBC Muay Thai Women’s International Super Bantamweight Champion and an overall impressive martial artist. There were two things that really stood out for me during Tiffany’s seminar.
The first was the concept of making a martial art your own. I’ve heard this theme before and Tiffany only reinforced the idea even more. As a martial artist you should do your best to try everything. Every technique may not work for you but at least by trying it you find out. Once you figure out what works for you, make it your own and incorporate it into your fighting style. Tiffany talked a lot about how her years studying karate had influenced her Muay Thai Kickboxing style.
The second concept was movement. A lot of people think about hitting or kicking when it comes to Kickboxing and while that is understandable and important, too often we forget about movement. Having good and tactical movement is essential in being successful in kickboxing and Tiffany did her best to drill that into us. We spent a significant amount of time working on movement and figuring out how to incorporate that movement into our individual fighting styles (see concept one above).
Tiffany’s seminar was interesting, informative and lots of fun! If you missed her seminar, don’t worry because Tiffany is actually going to be joining the Elite family as a staff member so we will be seeing her around a lot more in the future.
