An open mind is something that many of us struggle with. Think about the many aspects of your life though that have been enriched when you opened your eyes, ears and heart for the first time. This way of thinking is what has kept Elite Training Center’s Combative Mixed Martial Arts programs on the cutting edge. Whether it is Krav Maga, Thai Boxing / kickboxing, Kali / Silat, Jiu Jitsu, or Lotar; each system can compliment one another.
Combat is evolutionary by nature. As new combative systems are invented, a counter is more often than not created. This is not to say that all systems possess counters to each piece in said system. Nor is this to say that there is one “end all be all system.” It is of the utmost importance to keep an open mind when studying combative arts.
Take for instance the Krav Maga system at Elite Training Center in Redondo Beach. Through research and development, pieces of more traditional Krav Maga systems have been modified or set aside because elements or entire techniques weren’t viable for every person practicing them. This does not mean those pieces won’t find their way back into other techniques through future research. It simply means that currently, something else works better.
At Elite, Krav Maga takes many of its combatives from kickboxing / Thai Boxing, as well as it’s footwork. But isn’t limited to just that. There are elements of Lua (a traditional Hawaiian martial art that emphasizes pressure point and joint manipulation, throws and bone breaking), Kali / Silat (filipino fighting systems which include knife and stick fighting), as well as Japanese and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Taking so many different arts and placing them under one roof was established and by no means finished by keeping an open mind. As Combative Mixed Martial Arts are thrust into the media spotlight more people will attempt to practice them. And hopefully, the openminded will learn them and help them evolve.
