Recently, thanks to my Professor Tony Pacenski, i had the amazing opportunity to train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu BJJ with Master Rickson Gracie. I was nervous and did not know exactly what to expect, if i would be good enough or if i would be able to do the complex high level Jiu-Jitsu techniques. Not to mention the entire 6 hours of training was being filmed. No pressure, right!
Once Master Rickson Gracie stepped on the mat my nervousness and anxiety went away. He made us all feel welcome and confident. Those high level techniques i was worried about were also not an issue because Rickson’s only concern was that we understood the fundamentals and were able to apply them. Most of us did not even stand up in base correctly.
I did some research and found that Rickson Gracie has been teaching the same fundamentals for many years and those who master these fundamentals will be monsters on the ground. Here is a video that is over 20 years old of Rickson teaching the same things he taught us just over a month ago.
