New Years Resolutions
The holidays are over and now comes the time for new years resolutions. I am proud to admit that most of my new years resolutions are usually in some way martial arts related. So while we enjoy these last few days of holiday bliss with our families, it’s not a bad idea to start planning ahead for ways to become a better fighter or athlete in in the year to come.
First and foremost if you are reading this and are considering joining a martial arts school than that should be your resolution, I promise you it will change your life in ways that boost confidence, lower fear, and increase your social life in a fun and relaxed climate. If you are already a martial arts student then let’s look at some ways we can excel in the upcoming year at our respective art. I know most people’s new years resolutions usually revolve around diet or food (mine included) and weight loss, and if your are already training hard and exercising than you are on the right path. But perhaps it is time to take a harder stance on attacking those insecurities and try out a new diet (I have my eye on paleo) or healthy meal store (can’t go wrong with my fit foods). For the competitors incorporating an Olympic lifting routine or lifting weights in general can prove incredibly useful for improving strength on the mat. Starting a rigorous stretching program daily can decrease your chance for injury, improve those head kicks, and make your guard harder to pass. Lastly taking care of nagging injuries should be a must for you in 2014. Seeing a chiropractor (I always recommend sharps chiropractic) for any back pain and getting massages to break down scar tissue and adhesions on muscle fascia has been key for me to be able to train relatively pain free.
I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays and is ready to get back in the gym and train hard. But don’t forget to try and expand your knowledge on things that may be indirectly related to martial arts because they can have a huge impact on longevity, performance, and enjoyment. See you guys soon!
