Martial Arts with Your Loved Ones

This month is “Train with your Loved Ones” month at Elite Training Center, and Saturday’s Krav Maga Promotion and Test provided some of the most amazing examples of that; it showed the Elite martial arts family at its best.  As always, the promotion pushed everyone involved, whether you came to support, promote, or test.  It started with 100 push-ups and squats and continued through to body conditioning, Muay Thai drills and MMA-style ground and pound drills.

What was truly wonderful about the test though was the outpouring of support from all of the students there.  There were so many supporters there, cheering loudly and making sure their partners and teammates didn’t quit.  People cheered for students they’d never met before, for their classmates and friends, and very specially, for their family members.  We had multiple pairs of family members at the promotion, but this was one of the first times in Elite’s history (at least as far as I know) that we had a father/daughter pair testing for Masters level Krav Maga.  Watching the two of them train together, coming up through the ranks, always working together, has been inspiring to watch since they started.  To see them test for Masters is absolutely a peak in that path.  That Ken, as a father, recognized the importance of teaching his daughter and himself self-defense and he has always given it his all should inspire all of us.  That he himself finds so much inspiration in his daughter’s drive and performance only makes it that much better.  His posts about their training bring a smile to my face every time I see them.

Elite is special in part because of its emphasis on the Elite martial arts family and ensuring that everyone can enjoy and benefit from training in Krav Maga, Muay Thai, Kali or MMA.  Age and fitness level may impact your training, but it should never be an excuse not to try.  Even one hour of learning self-defense is undeniably better than no hours.  So whether you start young or older, the most important thing is to start.  Valentine’s may be a contrived holiday, but any reason is a good reason to bring someone you love to train with you.  It will change both of your lives, and make training that much more fun.  So take advantage of this month’s chance for your family to be a part of our martial arts family!  And keep coming to show such amazing support to fellow students!  Great job by all!
