How many times have we heard about the importance of training regularly by our instructors or teachers? These people who you look to for guidance and inspiration still need to be reminded of it as well. So much time spent on the mat without training themselves can eventually lead to a disservice to the students. How can a teacher ask a student to perform if he or she is incapable?
As time progresses and the overall understanding of your particular discipline (Krav Maga, MMA, BJJ, Kali, Muay Thai Kickboxing, etc), eventually comes the calling to teach what you know. This can sometimes sideline a student who is on the cusp of becoming an instructor, all the while the real desire to train and learn doesn’t stop, but takes a “back seat.”
It is the responsibility of the new “instructor” to not lose focus and maintain a clear head. Time is made for training. Training isn’t made for time. If someone desires something badly enough, there is nothing that can stop him/her.
Never satiate your thirst for knowledge. If you do, then there is nothing more to learn and you have failed those who have shared the knowledge before.
