Can’t we all just get along?
We’ve all taken the first step to learning about a martial art. Whether you are interested in Elite Training Center’s many programs, Krav Maga, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Kali Silat, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or MMA you most likely have done some investigation. If you haven’t, please take a few moments to learn about the traditions of the various systems you have interest in.
With the popularity of MMA now, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has solidified itself as one of the premiere systems to have a skill set in. As the sport has progressed, Muay Thai and western boxing have come to be important assets as well. What does this all have to do with Krav Maga?
Krav Maga practitioners often isolate themselves and think that Krav Maga is the pinnacle of self defense systems. There is no perfect system. We will continue to refine Krav as deemed necessary.
Elite’s Krav Program does research and development with top BJJ practitioners and MMA fighters to further its effectiveness. If Krav Maga incorporates so much from many other systems (in the beginning it was mostly boxing and wrestling…times have changed) then how do we prepare for someone who is skilled in MMA? MMA practices a different mindset. People are emulating what they see on TV. Make no mistake, the MMArtist poses a very dangerous threat to any Krav Maga enthusiast. So thinking that your self defense system is failsafe is an archaic way of thinking.
The answer is to cross train. I don’t know how many times we hear about infighting within Krav Maga schools and now the questions come up, “Krav Maga vs. MMA” who wins? At Elite Training Center we encourage all of our students to train in MMA or BJJ if they are in the Krav Maga program. Muay Thai kickboxing is already a prerequisite in order to promote in any of our systems.
It is imperative to understand that the more knowledge you possess in any form of combat you are simply increasing your odds for success. If you want to continue to stay closed minded about your training, well then you won’t pose much of threat to those who are open.
