Going to the World Cup Brazil
As a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor in Redondo Beach, I often get asked about soccer and the world cup in 2014. New friends say do you like fútbol? I say I am American, and the only sports I like are jiu-jitsu and MMA. However, I enjoy watching soccer games with the locals when I am in Brazil or Mexico. Recently I have heard of more friends planning a trip to Brazil to see the World Cup. They want to go… So Tony, what do you think?
If you want to go, do it. If you want to go to Brazil, go! But let me tell you what is going on right now on the streets because of how the government is choosing to use the money for the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics:
1st: This week, the Sao Paulo transit system raised the transit fare by about .20 cents! And this was “The straw that broke the camel’s back!” On that day, the people took to the streets in all the major cities in Brazil, demanding change. Higher wages, lower taxes, money for education, health care, and important infrastructure in the county, not building more SPORTS stadiums. There is so much more to write about, but I want you to know that the .20 cent fare rise was and is the tip of the iceberg when you start thinking about the inner workings of the government and years of corruption.
