Character counts at Elite Training Center
This Monday was the first day of the kids summer camp, and the way that we are running this program is we play games that have to do with the Character Counts of the day. Today’s topic was having good character and respect . The day before the students were acting up a bit because some of them were unfamiliar with those concepts , but as we addressed it today as the topic of the day they started changing and they also started getting along with each other .
Yesterday I had the students coloring individually to see how they would react to sharing . The kids were doing just fine until three students at a time wanted the same marker then there was a little bit of tension between the children. Today since the Character Count of the day was respect and having good character I had all the students draw myself and the other instructors a big picture about what character meant to them. I was surprised with the drawing because of all the characters they drew and different scenarios they drew. Couple of the students drew soldiers and explained how they each have good character by fighting and protecting our country and others drew firemen, policemen, ect.
Since today they children have shown a big improvement in their behavior with not only with their respect towards other but with themselves with Character Counts. I personally think teaching children about character and respect plays a big roll in their future and I also think every child should be taught this lesson. Watching the children improve their character makes me feel like a better instructor and I’m glad to have the opportunity to not only share my knowledge about martial arts with them but , also give them useful tools they can use their whole life.
