Rear Naked Choke
When you learn anything for the 1st time there tends to be two different approaches, I called it the “Gas on” and “Gas off” approach. The best analogy that most of us have experienced is driving a car for the 1st time. We either apply too much or too little gas until we have the “right feel” for the gas petal then everything becomes smooth.
This analogy is so true when learning Krav Maga, Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing and Martial Arts in general. The classic example being not applying the technique with enough energy/force to make it successful or applying too much force when you are trying to learn the technique. In either case, it falls apart and you are left wondering why the technique did not work.
This is pretty common and you need to be mindful of striking the balance between “Gas on” and “Gas Off”, especially when you are learning, your awareness is the most important attribute you can bring to class.
Please keep this in mind during your training!
I’ve read many articles and seen many videos on the application of the Rear Naked Choke (RNC) but here is an article that explains in detail “THE PHYSIOLOGY OF A REAR NAKED CHOKE” It’s very detailed and accurate.
Enjoy and see you on the mat soon…
