FAQs
Everyone has questions, so we put together a list of the most common ones. We want you to make the most informed decisions possible, so please don’t hesitate to ask us anything about our academy, our methods, or our instructors.
Which martial art is right for me?
There are so many martial arts to choose from. How do you decide? We offer a variety of martial arts classes, including the intuitive self-defense of Krav Maga, the fast-growing Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Muay Thai Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and more. All classes are conducted in a positive and supportive atmosphere.
We encourage you to try a variety of classes. Each style has unique benefits in different situations. You won’t know which works best for you until you try them, which is why we offer a free trial membership that allows you to participate in all of our basic-level classes.
I have no martial arts experience. Will this be a problem?
You’re in the same position as the majority of our students. We enjoy working with anyone who has a strong desire to learn, even if they’ve never practiced martial arts before. Old habits are hard to break, but we help you build new, effective skills while gaining confidence.
I am over 50. How will I keep up with younger students?
Congratulations on taking the first step! Self-defense training is for everyone. Many of our students are over 50, and you’ll find that all students show respect and kindness in class. To prepare:
Stretch before and after class. Flexibility improves with regular training.
Hydrate—drink water before and after the session.
Relax—you can do this!
One of our 50+ students put it best:
“When I entered the room the first time I was filled with self-doubts. During the very first session, my doubts subsided. I was treated with respect and patience by everyone. I now try to show that same regard for other new students.”
I have some martial arts experience or I’ve trained at other schools.
Elite Training Center welcomes experienced martial artists and respects all martial arts and instructors. If you are not satisfied with your current style, we encourage you to try a few classes. You’ll know within a few sessions if our academy is the right fit. Either way, we encourage everyone to have a “home” in martial arts.
My friend is in great shape and I’m not. Will I keep up?
“If you come to class, you have succeeded.” There is no weeding-out process. Very few students enter the school in the shape they want to be in. Everyone participates at their own level. Your strength, endurance, and self-defense skills will naturally improve as you continue training. If you need to step out during class, that’s fine. We encourage you to continue, but there is no pressure to perform.
What should I do to prepare for my first class?
We suggest the following:
Wear comfortable workout clothes. You will sweat and might get dirty. A uniform shirt will be provided when you sign up.
We have locker rooms, but many students come dressed in workout clothes.
Most students train barefoot; you may wear socks if you prefer.
Bring a water bottle and hydrate before class. Water is also available at the center.
Arrive 15 minutes early to stretch and prepare.
Do not train without eating, but avoid eating for an hour before class.
Inform the instructor of any injuries or specific needs before class.
Be quiet and attentive during class.
Be friendly and open with others.
Have fun!
I am in law enforcement and seek martial arts training to protect the public. How will my training differ?
Your training may include some specialized techniques, but our goal is the same: to ensure you gain practical self-defense skills, fitness, and confidence. Training is always adaptable to your skill level and experience.
