Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for Self-Defense

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has garnered a reputation for being more of a sport in the past few years. I also know there are some people out there who only do it for self-defense. Although, it is an integral part to being a well rounded MMA Fighter, it is also hugely important to understand Jiu Jitsu‘s importance as a self-defense practitioner.

Elite Training Center‘s Krav Maga has a large focus on Jiu Jitsu and continually encourages its members to cross train in MMA to get more information to see how it all blends. With Muay Thai as a prerequisite for promotion in Elite‘s systems, we saw incredible progress. Now with those who are trying more MMA classes and seeing how it all can apply to self-defense, those same leaps in skill sets are occurring.

It is with great pleasure to announce that this Friday BJJ Black Belt Shawn Williams will be doing a self-defense seminar at Elite Training Center Redondo Beach.

This is a great opportunity to train with one of the best BJJ instructors and practitioners working today. I for one am very excited to have the honor of participating in the seminar. I encourage all of Elite‘s members to jump on this exciting opportunity to train with Mr. Williams.

Train hard. Train often.

Setting Goals for Greatness, Setting Goals for Black Belt What can we do different in our lives to make it better? I am always asking myself this. I am way too hard on myself. Most of us are. But why is it? We’re all capable of living a healthy lifestyle. It all starts with you.

Shelter for Disaster Preparedness Shelter, it’s the final component of the three essentials of life (Water, Fire & Shelter) but that doesn’t mean that it’s any less important. Kickboxing styles It is interesting to see when fighters with different kickboxing styles and backgrounds test their skills in a match. How do they adjust and react to their opponent’s style? Is it better to be offensive like the American kickboxer, or is it better to be defensive and time the strikes for the perfect

Martial arts can be a great memory maker! Remember the first promotion at Elite Training Center that you were a part of? Was it Krav Maga, Muay Thai Kickboxing, or MMA? You wondered after 30 minutes into the 5 hours of training, “what am I doing this for?” (thanks Bobby Rich). You remember those people

Setting realistic fitness goals Everyone is always talking about how they want a six pack or a better butt or better arms and then they go on some crazy diet.  However, it is really important to realize that fitness (and fitness goals) has to be balanced with the rest of your life.   You could
