Kid Krav: Krav Maga Self Defense For Kids 9 Thru 15

Monday, September 6th, 2010

Elite is pleased to announce its new Krav Maga program for kids from 9 through 15.  Both boys and girls are welcome no matter what their physical capabilities are.  Kid Krav teaches anyone to defend themselves and to respect themselves and others.

Krav Maga is the fastest growing martial art because it is truely about self defense, rather than complex forms and contests.  Krav Maga takes simple, intuitive reactions and refines them into an effective self defense system.

Elite Helps Kids Grow & Mature: Elite has a track record of success teaching kids.  And Elite’s Danny Christian, a father and certified youth instructor is expert in helping our children obtain the martial arts skill while simultaneously teaching respect and self discipline.

Kids Krav Teaches a Philosophy:  The attributes of respect, honor, strength and discipline are woven in throughout each session.  It’s never too early for children to start learning self-defense and our core principles.

Save, Fun, Learning Environment: At Elite Training Center, children are taught Respect, Honor, Strength, and Discipline in a safe and fun learning environment. These techniques build strong character, greater respect for parents and others, and strong bodies.

Kids Krav Teachs Self Defense: Elite’s kid Kravteaches real Krav Maga self defense techniques, be it from adults with bad intent, bullies, or other potentially dangerous situations.  Simultaneously, kids are taught restraint.  They will be taught not to use their new skills on siblings or others in any way that would make them the aggressor.

Sign up for the new Kids Krav classes:  We promise your kids will be safe and have fun in the Krav Maga for Kids (Kids Krav) program.

Krav maga basic curr – hook punch

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

Once again we are looking at a technique that is connected within all of the systems we teach at elite training center…whether it is Krav maga, Kali, mixed martial arts , Thai boxing, boxing , kid jitsu
Please remember that repetition of the techniques properly is what creates success…

Hook Punch – Bend your arm approx. 90 degrees, lifting at your shoulder so arm is parallel to the ground. Rotate your body in the direction you are punching. For a forward hand hook, shift your body weight to the rear leg and rotate your front foot in the direction of the punch.  For a rear hand hook, shift weight to forward foot as you pivot on rear foot.

Champions have confidence

     Champions have Confidence!

Champions understand the key to developing supreme confidence is preparation.

In the Martial Arts, the more you practice and train, the better your conditioning will be and the more confident you become in your skills. The more confident you are, the better you feel and the better you perform.

Champions have confidence, and that gives them greater strength and fortitude to take aggressive action towards all of their dreams and goals.

Quite often, when you gain confidence in one area of life, it shows up in other areas as well. This is why so many of our Junior Black Belt Champions are also academic achievers are well.

Any child that is given the gift of confidence will excel in all areas of their life. Athletics, academics and otherwise.

In the same regard, adults that become confident, well conditioned Black Belt Champions, often excel in the dojo, in their professional and personal lives as well. It’s very common that a student training for their Black Belt also see peak results in every other area of life.

A person that lacks confidence, may be frozen in fear.

To achieve outstanding results, you must take great actions. To take great action, you must have the confidence that you can and will succeed.

If you want to increase your confidence in any aspect of your life, increase your practice and preparation time.

Study Hard, Train Hard & Prepare for Greatness!

The True Warrior

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

To be a true warrior you must show it in everything that you do…it is not a coat you shed on and off when it suits you…it is a responsiblty that most ignore…people think you throw some punches and kicks and you are a true warrior…The true meaning of being a warrior is “To Serve”….not yourself but others and thru this service you find your true self and meaning to life as a warrior…if you can’t look at yourself in the mirror and ask the question ” what did I do to help someone else achive their goals today” and truly have an answer then maybe you need to spend more time in doing so….in the end our legacy is who we helped in life…think then ask yourself..” who have I helped today”..!

Straight punch in Krav Maga…

Saturday, June 19th, 2010

In Krav maga just like in the Mixed martial arts, Kali , Thai Boxing, Boxing or kickboxing we teach at Elite Training Center in Redondo Beach the straight punch is one of the most important tool we use to hit our target…it us the fastest line of attack and if used correctly cannot be seen easily…Please pay close attention to how it is done and like everything else we do practice for perfection…a habit trained is a habbit gained…

Straight Punch – Lead hand punch is called a Jab, Rear hand punch is called a Cross. Punch travels in a straight line from your face to attacker and back at equal speed. Punch comes from the body, keeping elbows down protecting ribs. Punch extends 95% or so, and recoils. Never hyper-extend your elbow or tricep tendons. Your fist will rotate, causing impact with first two knuckles. Keep wrist straight, fist tight without any air or space between fingers. Shoulders will rise to protect jaw line from counter strikes. Shoulder, hips, knees and balls of feet will rotate together to generate maximum power.

Slipping punches with a step and without a step

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

Within the different systems we teach slipping punches is another tech the is common to them all, weather it’s Krav maga , mixed martial arts, thai boxing Kali etc…please practice this movement because of it importance

Slipping Punches – Rotate your opposite shoulder towards the outside of attacking arm, coiling your torso and rotation of feet so the punch will slip past your face. Think of throwing a left hook, if attacker is throwing a left jab. Keep your hands up and eyes forward.
Slip with a step – Same as above, but take a step 45 degrees forward, pivoting on rear foot so you can begin counter hook immediately on attacker.

When hit with Negative – Counter with Positive! And DOJO TERMINOLOGY  KOKORO is a mindset that allows you to properly focus yourself for optimal results.

When hit with Negative – Counter with Positive!

Training in the Martial Arts conditions and prepares us to defend against dangerous people and threatening situations. One of the greatest dangers we face everyday…
isn’t so much a physical threat. More common is risk of being harmed by negative comments, attitudes or emotions.

Applying the Yin-Yang approach to defending against negative forces would
tell us to always be ready to counter with positives.

Apply this to a physical assault, one defense is the exact opposite of your opponent.

If they attack in a straight line, you may defend in a circular direction.

If they strike high, you may defend against the attack and counter low.

When hit with negative…counter with positive, is similar.

Try applying it to daily life where we may be attacked verbally or assaulted emotionally.

If someone makes a negative comment, you redirect them with a positive comment.

If someone shares a negative rumor, you ignore it and share something positive.

Maybe someone you know becomes very negative and reactive, your goal would be
to stay calm, positive and proactive.

Self-Defense is about defending yourself and your loved ones, not about harming the attacker. The same is true here…

Think of the same concept in dealing with negative people or situations.

The goal is to avoid harm…not cause it. Practice this theory and you’ll stay calm and increase your ability to maintain a positive outlook and attitude toward everything and everybody.

TRAINING DRILL: Think of someone you know that has a tendency to be negative. Practice in advance ways you may be able to counter their negatives with positives. The one that is the most committed emotionally usually has the greatest impact.

DOJO TERMINOLOGY

KOKORO is a mindset that allows you to properly focus yourself for optimal results.

Being pumped up, psyched up and ready to go, is a quality that most BLACK BELT CHAMPIONS are able to develop.

KOKORO goes beyond this short-term hyperactive state of mind.

It’s the ability to bring yourself to “Peak State” on a consistent basis.

To do this, we must first learn to calm ourselves, block out distractions and get rid of any negative thoughts that may clutter our minds.

KOKORO allows you to better focus yourself while aiming your energies and effort in
a positive and productive direction.

To get optimal benefits from your martial arts training, it’s essential to train yourself
to stay focused and fired up on your most important goals and objectives.

Taking consistent positive actions and remaining proactive on a regular basis will improve your ability to create the KOKORO mindset.  By allowing enough time daily
to properly prepare yourself and developing the habit of YOI.

You’ll start each day in a proactive mindset and will begin to eliminate negative feelings
the sense of crisis in your life.

A healthy and well-rested mind, body and spirit always works better. Eliminating
and avoiding things and people in your life that create stress, will free your mind
of negatives and allow it to be filled with positive thoughts, ideas and objectives.

There is a technique called “Mind like water” where we learn to relax and rid ourselves of the turbulent tides and rough seas that can sometimes represent our daily challenges.  Once you can see the calm and clear body of water, a glassy and mirror like surface, you’ve cleared your mind.

Now, you can better focus and prepare yourself for the desired state of KOKORO.

The shoe rack theory

Monday, April 5th, 2010

POWER OF GREAT PEOPLE SKILLS}>DOJO PROTOCOL

Score a “10” in your Black Belt Manners…

Practice the “Shoe Rack Theory” each time you enter the dojo.

Most people that come to a Martial Arts dojo learn to place their shoes in the shoerack, thinking it is done simply to keep the dojo clean.

Although it does serve that purpose and we all appreciate a clean dojo…the Shoe Rack Theory has a much deeper meaning and purpose.

It is a reminder that when you place your shoes in the rack, you take a mental moment to place all your daily challenges and troubles in your shoes as well. This will allow you to start your class with a clear mind, free of troubles and challenges.

Most students find that within about the first 10-15 minutes of class, this occurs naturally as their mind and body get fully warmed up.

Here’s the next reminder, when you’re done with class, you are now ready to better deal with any challenge or trouble you are having in life. Either that, or you completely forgot about them.

Now…isn’t that better than drinking alcohol or punching a wall?

Most people get very stressed and handle it in unhealthy ways. A true Martial Artist practices the mental philosophy as much as the physical.

Our goal is to help you lead a more successful and happier life through the physical practice and conditioning, as well as the mental philosophy and conditioning.

This is how you become a more versatile Black Belt Champion in life, by developing your mind…body and spirit.

I wish you the best of success in and out of the dojo and hope that you continue to benefit from the many values and benefits that training in the Martial Arts brings to millions of people worldwide.

In closing, I thank you for your support and encouragement.

Based on the feedback I hear everyday, our school and our training is making a difference in the lives of many.

Not just in the physical side of our training, but also in the mental and attitudinal aspects as well.

KACHI is a Japanese term we use for VICTORY.

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

KACHI

KACHI is a Japanese term we use for VICTORY.

It’s one way to recognize the achievement of a goal.

There are many ways to recognize and celebrate your victories and achievements.

The important thing is to do it…

Tracking your victories is an powerful way to stay excited and eager.

Everything counts, big victories as well as the little ones.

Often, it takes many small victories before we ever achieve the great big ones.

Every goal is likely to teach you to overcome obstacles and setbacks.

Your ability to bounce back and overcome obstacles is another form of victory.

The more you remind yourself of your most important goals and objectives, the better
clarity you will have. This also helps you to stay on track and keep taking the actions
necessary to lead you and/or your team to victory!

Black Belt Champions and Elite Leaders always keep a clear vision of their
pre-determined target goals and take massive action to consistently hit their targets
and achieve their victories.

What is your definition of a VICTORY?

What has to happen for you to raise your arms in VICTORY?

When it happens, we ask you to raise your arms and shout “KACHI!”

There is never failure…only useful feedback!

Champions are always aware of their track record of  victories and successes.

KACHI is such a great feeling…it triggers your endorphins and creates a natural high.

A healthy high that has no negative side effects and is filled with positive benefits for all.

It’s what we call a healthy addiction.

It’s time to update your 90 Day Victory List for the year thus far.

Compare it to your original goals when you started your year.

POWER OF GREAT PEOPLE SKILLS}>DOJO PROTOCOL

As part of Scoring a “10” in Year 2010, we talk about dojo protocol.

Score a “10” in your Black Belt Manners…

QT}>Positive Response is aimed at classroom energy and attentiveness.

Q.T. refers to Quick Take Off, also known as hustle in the muscle. When you
are getting the targets or your safety equipment, you do it quickly. When you
are asked to get with a partner, you do it quickly and efficiently.

Imagine the opposite. When your instructor asks you to get with a partner, you
and your classmates move at a leasurely pace. It would slow everything down,
including the energy and pace of the class.

Positive response is a simple asknowledgement to your instructor’s request.

“Yes sir/Yes Ma’am” is one way. “OSU” is another way to acknowledge and show
Your positive response. Again, it keeps the energy, respect and attentiveness of
the classroom at a peak level.

The combination of Q.T. and Positive Response has proven to heighten the energy
and learning experience. It adds to the structure and the overall focus of a class.

A well disciplined class with a positive, respectful atmosphere breeds a strong
spirit of learning and eagerness. That’s what we call “Black Belt Spirit!”

Simple and also very easy. However, a wise man named Jim Rohn once said…”Anything easy to do is also easy not to do.”

It will make you stand out in the crowd as unique and different in a very good way.

Always show Black Belt Manners is about being polite and well mannered toward others.

Make it a goal to develop the habit of A-rated Black Belt manners.
